What's Involved in EV Charger Installation?
EV charger installation adds a dedicated, high-capacity 240V circuit and charging unit so you can safely charge your electric vehicle at home. Most homeowners choose a Level 2 charger, which delivers 40–48 amps (about 9.6–11.5 kW) and adds roughly 25–40 miles of range per hour — 4–6× faster than the Level 1 cord that comes with the car.
A proper install includes a load calculation to confirm your electrical panel can handle it, a dedicated 40–60 amp breaker and circuit, and either a hardwired charger or a NEMA 14-50 outlet for plug-in units (J1772 or Tesla / NACS connector). If your panel is full or undersized, we’ll quote a panel upgrade separately.
We install trusted brands — Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Emporia, and more — mounted cleanly indoors or in weatherproof outdoor enclosures, permitted and completed to current Florida electrical code (NEC).
What a Home Charger Install Includes
- Panel capacity & load evaluation
- Dedicated 240V circuit
- Level 2 charger or NEMA 14-50 outlet

- Permit & inspection where required
- Testing & a charging demo
WHICH CHARGER IS RIGHT?
Level 1 vs. Level 2 Charging
Almost every EV owner who drives daily is better off with Level 2. Here’s the difference at a glance.
Level 1 (120V)
Uses a standard household outlet. Adds about 3–5 miles of range per hour, so a full charge can take 2–4 days. Fine for plug-in hybrids or very light daily driving — no installation required.
Level 2 (240V) — Recommended
Runs on a dedicated 240V circuit at 40–48 amps. Adds about 25–40 miles of range per hour and fully charges most EVs overnight. Best for daily EV driving — professional installation.
IS IT TIME?
Signs You're Ready for a Home EV Charger
You Just Bought an EV
A Level 2 home charger is the fastest, most convenient way to keep a new EV charged and ready.
Charging Is Too Slow
A standard outlet (Level 1) adds only 3–5 miles of range per hour — far too slow for daily driving.
You're Using an Extension Cord
Charging off an extension cord or shared outlet is unsafe — it should be a dedicated circuit.
Tired of Public Charging
Home charging is cheaper and always available — no more hunting for an open public station.
You Added a Second EV
Two EVs may need a higher-capacity setup or a panel upgrade to charge reliably.
Your Panel Needs Support
Older or full panels may need an upgrade to safely handle an EV charger's added load.

If your panel needs an upgrade to support the load, that’s quoted separately. Either way, we assess your setup and give you a clear, upfront price before any work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about home EV charger installation, cost, and requirements across Tampa Bay & Southwest Florida.
How much does it cost to install an EV charger?
Most home Level 2 installs run roughly $600–$2,000 depending on distance from your panel, the charger type, and your panel’s capacity. A panel upgrade, if needed, is quoted separately — and you’ll always get a clear price up front.
How long does the installation take?
Most home EV charger installations are completed in a single day. More complex jobs — a long circuit run or a panel upgrade — may take longer, and we’ll tell you up front.
Do I need a Level 2 charger?
For most drivers, yes. A Level 2 (240V) charger adds about 25–40 miles of range per hour versus just 3–5 with a standard outlet — so your EV is ready every morning.
Will my electrical panel support an EV charger?
Many panels do, but older or fully loaded panels may need an upgrade to safely handle the added load. We evaluate your panel’s capacity as part of the quote and let you know.
Can you install a Tesla Wall Connector or any brand?
Yes. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint, and all major Level 2 charger brands, plus NEMA 14-50 outlets for plug-in units.
Do you pull permits and install to code?
Yes — every EV charger installation is completed to current Florida electrical code and permitted where required.
Are there rebates or tax credits for installing an EV charger?
Often, yes. A federal tax credit can cover 30% of your charger and installation (up to $1,000) if your address is in an eligible area, and Tampa Electric plus some automakers and charger brands offer additional programs. Incentives change and depend on your address, so we’ll help you find what you currently qualify for — confirm details with your tax professional.
Should I hardwire the charger or use a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Both work well. A hardwired charger is clean, permanent, and ideal for higher-power units and outdoor installs. A NEMA 14-50 outlet lets you plug in a portable/removable charger and take it with you. We’ll recommend the best option for your charger, location, and panel.
How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?
Charging at home is far cheaper than public stations — usually just a few dollars for a full charge, and even less on Tampa Electric’s off-peak hours. Most drivers spend roughly $30–$60 a month, depending on how much they drive and their electricity rate.
Can the charger be installed outside in Florida weather?
Yes. We install chargers in garages, carports, and on outdoor walls using weatherproof, outdoor-rated equipment and enclosures built for Florida’s heat, humidity, and storms — all mounted safely and to code.
Do you install commercial or multi-unit EV charging?
Absolutely. Beyond homes, we install commercial and multi-unit EV charging for workplaces, retail, HOAs, and apartment/condo properties — including multiple chargers and load management.
Is my EV charger installation guaranteed?
Yes. Every installation is completed by licensed, insured electricians, permitted, and backed by our workmanship guarantee — plus the manufacturer’s warranty on the charging equipment itself.
